ABOUT US
Founded in October 1935, Congleton Players Amateur Theatre Clubhas a long and proud history of bringing quality, affordable theatre to local audiences. What began as entertainment for just sixpence a show has grown into a much-loved community theatre group with a reputation for engaging, high-standard productions.
Now more than eighty years on, we continue to present a wide range of performances—from gripping thrillers to much-loved comedy classics. Our productions have not only received nominations but have also won awards, reflecting the talent, dedication, and passion of our members. At the heart of everything we do is a commitment to making theatre accessible and enjoyable for the community of Congleton and audiences across the North West. We are proud to be part of the Daneside Theatre Trust community and to use its excellent facilities for rehearsals, set building, and performances.
We are managed by a dedicated volunteer committee who maintain the high production standards established over many years, while actively encouraging participation, creativity, and community involvement.
WHAT WE DO
Each year, between October and June, we stage three productions, with open auditions giving all members the opportunity to step on stage. Alongside performers, many of our members share their creativity through set design and construction, costume, make-up, props, lighting, sound, and the many other skills that bring a production to life.
Congleton Players enjoy a strong reputation across the North West and pride ourselves on being a friendly, welcoming group. Whatever your interest or availability, there are plenty of ways to get involved and contribute at a level that suits your time commitments.
If performing isn’t for you, there are still countless opportunities to experience the excitement of live theatre. From backstage and technical roles to stage management and production support, every contribution plays a vital part in creating a successful show.
MEMBERSHIP
Full membership allows you to take part on the stage as an actor including your insurance as a performer. It offers you the opportunity of assisting in a production in areas such as props, make-up, lighting and sound. Members also receive newsletters periodically, advising them of forthcoming productions, murder mystery evenings, play readings and social activities etc.
All memberships run for 12 months from 1st of September.
