A very big thank you to all those that have entered our competition and festival! There has been a truly great response, with a wide range of subject matter and some really creative writing!
Following our best ever level of entries for the One Act Play Festival and Competition with entries in the hundreds, the five finalists have now been selected. We have received entries from The Shetland Islands down to the South coast and all points in-between, in addition to the USA, Israel, Finland, Canada, Hong Kong, India, Australia, South Africa and Mexico. Entries covered a wide range of subjects and the standard of scripts submitted was yet again of a very high standard indeed.
All entries were read "blind" by a group of actors and directors and after multiple readings the finalists were selected. It was only at this point that the authors of the individual scripts were identified and linked to the different plays. The five finalist plays will be performed on the evening of 18th July 2009 at the 300 seat Daneside Theatre in Congleton, Cheshire. The climax of the competition will be when the audience on the evening votes for the eventual winner after all the plays have been performed.
The five finalist plays are:
“Lonely Hearts” by Roland Moore,
Surrey, England
"My Date With The Pope” by Ron Frankel,
New York, USA
“Mission Impossible” by David Muncaster,
Sandbach, Cheshire, England
“The Tribute” by Charles Evans,
Blackheath, London, England
“Sponge Cake & Branston” by Mark Robberts,
County Durham, England
Tickets will be available three weeks before the performance night on the 18th July from our ticket agent, Congleton Information Centre (01260) 271095 so make sure you put the date in your diary as tickets will sell very fast!
