One Act Play Competition & Festival 2009 Winner!
It is great pleasure that Congleton Players can announce the winner of the One Act Play Competition & Festival 2009. The winner is David Muncaster from Sandbach in Cheshire, the author of "Mission Impossible" a hilarious play set in a typical modern office training session that picks up on so many of the management speak cliches and mannerisms prevalent in today's working life, wonderfully brought to life by a talented cast. Directed by Joyce Pace.

The five finalists were:
“Lonely Hearts” by Roland Moore, Surrey, England
"My Date With The Pope” by Ron Frankel, New York, USA
“Mission Impossible” by David Muncaster, Sandbach, Cheshire, England
“The Tribute” by Charles Evans, Blackheath, London, England
“Sponge Cake & Branston” by Mark Robberts, County Durham, England

All five excellent plays were performed in front of a capacity house at Daneside Theatre in Congleton on Saturday 18th July and each one was a hit in it's own right with the audience. The voting was very tight and a real buzz filled the theatre. Congleton Players were very proud to be the hosts of five such outstanding new plays.
Congleton Players harnessed all their resources in order to get the five plays staged so professionally.

In total there were over 71 people engaged in getting the One Act Play Festival on to the stage (many of them multi tasking with seamless efficiency!).

These five excellent plays were all very well recieved and all for the princely sum of £6 - that's £1.20 per play!!

A big thank you also goes to our audience on the night who voted for the winner - a very hard choice with five such excellent plays.

Finally, thank you to the very many authors that submitted their scripts - we at Congleton Players are very grateful for all your hard work. All authors should keep looking at our website for more details of future One Act Play Festivals. Congleton Players are very proud to be able to offer the opportunity for new writing to get onto stage - You could be our next winner, so Get Creative, Get Writing & Get in Touch!

A word from the winning playwright
I just wanted to say thanks to everyone involved in the Congleton Players One Act Play Festival. Everything was magnificent! The organisation, the technical aspects, the direction and acting; nothing could be faulted.

I thoroughly enjoyed the evening and believe that any of the five plays could have won but have to thank Joyce and her cast for doing such a brilliant job with my script. I honestly don't believe it could have been done any better.

It was lovely to meet so many of the people involved in the group, as well as some of my fellow authors. Congratulations on a great festival and I look forward to coming again in years to come, whether I make the final myself or not.

David Muncaster
